Dr David Hunt awarded Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship
Jun 2019: Many congratulations to Dr David Hunt, who has been awarded a prestigious Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellowship to study how abnormal immune activation affects the brain.
We're honoured to have many researchers and clinicians working at the Clinic who are at the top of their field. The recent funding award to Dr David Hunt from the Wellcome Trust confirms his excellent work in neurology research as very few researchers receive this highly respected accolade from a prominent medical research funder
As a neurologist in the Clinic David sees people living with MS and those with neuroinflammatory conditions alongside his research work. This 5 year award of £1.6m will fund his laboratory's research into the biological detail of how chronic inflammation can damage the brain, especially its fragile network of small blood vessels. This will help us understand how neurological disease might be prevented in immune diseases such as lupus, and potentially provide insights into how dementias develop.
David and his team will be based at the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, in the laboratories of the UK Dementia Research Institute and MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine.
