International Clinical Trials Day 2023

May 2023: Find out what's happening in Clinical Trials at the Anne Rowling Clinic.
May 20th is Clinical Trials Day, marking the start of the first controlled trial in 1747 by James Lind, comparing treatments for scurvy among British Royal Naval sailors.
At the Clinic, we place a significant emphasis on the importance of clinical trials. By extensively testing and analysing data from clinical trials, we can ensure the safety and effectiveness of drug treatments. Currently, we are conducting multiple clinical trials that are ongoing.
These trials are:
MND-SMART led by the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research, MND-SMART is the UK's largest clinical trial for motor neuron disease (MND). This innovative clinical drugs trial is currently testing three potential new treatments that may slow the progression of MND.
MS-STAT2 is a UK wide phase 3 clinical trial led by University College London. The trial is testing simvastatin, a drug used to lower cholesterol, in people with secondary progressive MS (SPMS).
ChariotMS is a UK-wide phase 2 clinical drug trial led by Queen Mary University of London and Bart NHS Health Trust. The trial is testing whether Cladribine, a drug already used for highly active multiple sclerosis, can help people with advanced MS maintain the use of their upper limb function.
StarMS aims to compare the efficacy and safety of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) versus highly effective disease modifying therapies. The StarMS trial is led by the University of Sheffield. The Anne Rowling Clinic is one of 19 sites across the UK.
Octopus-MS is a revolutionary trial that will transform the way we test treatments for progressive multiple sclerosis. The Octopus-MS trial is led by University College London and funded by the UK MS Society. We are excited to be one of the major recruitment sites for the Octopus-MS trial, and plan to be open soon.
