No more Mocha and walking the Kiltwalt fundraising challenges

Aug 2023: Local fundraiser gives up her mocha coffee and a team of staff from the Clinic are taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk this September.

Local fundraiser Wendy Stubbs is giving up her much loved daily mocha to help raise funds for a specific piece of equipment for the Anne Rowling Clinic. Wendy became aware that some study participants and patients attending clinics can find it hard to have blood taken and this sometimes means that their nurse or doctor has to try several times to get a blood test. Wendy looked into this problem and found that by using a piece of equipment called AccuVein clinicians can improve the experience for study participants and patients. This handheld portable device helps staff locate veins by using near infrared technology.

Wendy got in touch with the University of Edinburgh's community fundraising team to offer to fundraise for this piece of equipment for the Anne Rowling Clinic.

At an estimated £3,300 the research team at the Clinic felt that they too would like to help fundraise for this together with Wendy. Earlier on this year a team from the Anne Rowling Clinic and colleagues from the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research ran in the Hairy Haggis relay at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival raising £1,000.

They are getting a team together from the Clinic to take part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk with any funds raised going towards the £3,300 needed for the piece of equipment.
