June 2023: MS research staff present at prestigious meeting in Edinburgh

The annual Northern Connections MS meeting was held at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh on Friday 23rd June 2023.

This annual meeting brings together academics, clinicians, specialist MS nurses, and MS researchers who all have an involvement with MS treatment and research. Northern Connections MS offers an opportunity for collaboration between scientific and clinical specialists, and encourages learning and sharing best practice in multiple sclerosis care. The Anne Rowling Clinic was well represented with over 12 attendees made up of academic, research staff and affiliated NHS care providers.

The morning session was chaired by Professor David Hunt and this year's meeting featured a wide variety of subjects. These included presentations by Georgia Andreopoulou on her study of gait and balance assessment in MS, and by Rozanna Meijboom on MRI imaging used in the Future MS study and the forthcoming Precision MS study. Other presentations centred on understanding MS across all populations, the possible role of Epstein Barr virus in MS, and addressing issues of cognition and employment in MS. Dr Niall MacDougall also gave a presentation on the history and use of the Scottish MS register.

The next Northern Connections MS meeting will be held on Friday 7th June 2024.
