Dec 2024: World's first multi-arm, multi-stage trial for MS reaches recruitment goal.

The OCTOPUS trial has successfully recruited the 375 participants with multiple sclerosis (MS) required for its initial phase, achieving this milestone two months earlier than anticipated. This accomplishment is attributed to the tremendous engagement from the MS community and the dedication of the OCTOPUS trial sites. The Anne Rowling Clinic is currently the only recruitment site in Scotland and has randomised 48 patients to the trial.

The trial is set to progress smoothly into the next phase, aiming to recruit at least 800 additional participants with MS. Current participants in the OCTOPUS trial will continue their involvement. The team anticipates the opening of more sites in 2025, which will enhance research participation opportunities. Ultimately, there will be up to 30 locations across the UK, along with additional sites in Australia.

We are grateful to everyone who has participated in OCTOPUS, without whom research like this wouldn't be possible.
