Rowling Scholar
MRC/MND Association Lady Edith Wolfson Clinical Fellow
Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Arpan is a Rowling Scholar (2017-) who subsequently secured a prestigious MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship to undertake a PhD in laboratory research into motor neurone disease, supervised by Professors Siddharthan Chandran and Giles Hardingham. Arpan graduated from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, and is a neurology registrar and aspiring clinician-scientist.

Arpan's PhD project examines the most common known genetic mutation in motor neurone disease, the C9orf72 mutation. He will exploit the recent advances in patient-derived stem cell modelling and gene-editing to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying MND. The current focus of his research is on the axon and metabolic impairments.
