Dr Bhuvaneish T Selvaraj
Bhuvaneish leads a laboratory research group who use advanced human stem cell technology to generate patient "disease-in-a-dish" models, with a particular focus on MND.
In particular Bhuvaneish uses state-of-the-art tools to investigate why particular brain cell types and nerve pathways are vulnerable to degeneration in people with MND, whereas other cell types and pathways are spared. Ultimately, his research goal is to identify methods to repair the connections between nerves and muscles that are lost due to the disease.
Bhuvaneish is an engineering graduate from Anna University, India. He began his scientific research career with a PhD in neurobiology at University of Wuerzburg, Germany. In 2014, he moved to the University of Edinburgh to undertake his post-doctoral research on human stem cell disease modelling of neurodegenerative diseases. In 2020 he was awarded a Chancellor's Fellowship at the University of Edinburgh.
