Karen is the stem cell manager for Professor Siddharthan Chandran's group and manages the core stem cell facility with the Dementia Research Institute in Edinburgh. She works together with a team of scientists that use stem cells to model neurodegenerative diseases (diseases of the central nervous system). By modelling these diseases they aim to discover what happens to cells of the central nervous system during disease and to discover new potential treatments.
Karen studied Genetics at the University of Aberdeen and obtained a PhD in Genetics from the University of Leicester.
