PhD Student
Robert O Curle Eyelab - Institute for Regeneration and Repair; Centre of Clinical Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Miracle is a PhD student at the ROC Eyelab, based within the Institute for Regeneration and Repair, University of Edinburgh. His PhD is investigating neurodegenerative diseases like multiple sclerosis (MS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neuron disease (MND). His investigations will be 'through the eye' using multi-platform retinal imaging.

Neurodegenerative diseases affect millions worldwide, and while no cure currently exists, early and accurate diagnosis can support timely treatment, slow progression, and improve quality of life.

His research, in collaboration with Heidelberg Engineering, focuses on identifying novel, non-invasive, affordable, and accurate eye biomarkers. These may offer a more patient-friendly way to detect and monitor disease-related changes, especially when combined with other biomarkers like neuroimaging. Tracking changes in the eye over time may help assess disease activity and treatment response.

Miracle holds an HBSc in neuroscience and psychology from the University of Toronto and a master’s from York University, where he studied cognitive-motor integration in concussion. In his spare time, Miracle enjoys photography and climbing.
